Methamphetamine Facts

Methamphetamine Facts

One of the drugs that is very popular among drug abusers in Alberta is methamphetamine. In fact, a 2004 survey suggests that over 5% of the population of this large Canadian province has tried the drug at some point. Methamphetamine abuse is rapidly rising among the younger population which sees an incremental increase in the overall numbers.

Young people use methamphetamine because of two reasons. First, it is relatively easy to purchase. Whether it is speed, ecstasy, or crank, methamphetamines have invaded many cities and schoolyards. The second reason if the peer pressure factor. Many teenagers start with drug of any kind because they want to fit in and be part of the "crowd". Usually the drug of choice is not methamphetamines, but some other starter drug like marijuana or alcohol.

Methamphetamines are a man made drug. It can be easily created in a garage, basement, or small recreational vehicle. Wherever there is a small space to do the work is suitable for those who are "cooking" the drug. The ingredients are easily attainable and highly combustible. Things like alcohol, gasoline, paint thinner, ephedrine, drain cleaner, diet aids, cold tablets, iodine, rock salts, battery acid, and acetone are just a few of the common items that can make up the methamphetamine that someone may be taking.

Not only is the drug a highly addictive substance, but it is very volatile may making it. Hundreds of injuries, and deaths, in Alberta are through people "cooking" their own methamphetamine drugs. People who are making the drug for the first time, or do not know the correct way to mix the many different ingredients, not only harm themselves in the process, but also cause serious damage to those who take the shoddily prepared drugs.

Addiction to methamphetamine is very common in those who try it a few times. The neuro-sensors in the brain secrete a chemical as the drug is administered. It gives the user a certain feeling of euphoria, invincibility, and confidence to do anything. Once the chemical dissipates, the body reacts by wanting more of the drug in the system. Many abusers are into "tweaking" or "binging" on the drug. This basically means that they are continually using the drug for a constant influx of the "rush".

This tweaking or binging is very dangerous as an overdose of methamphetamine is usually fatal. There are also complications when a bad batch of the drug is taken while binging. Serious medical problems like heart attack, stroke, or kidney failure can all be caused by taking meth continually.

Treatment of the methamphetamine abuse in Alberta is starting to take a new approach. Today, many therapists are looking at the psychological aspect of the abuser. When looking at this, along with taking care of the medical problems, and keeping the user out of the environment where they can receive the drugs, the chances of success are drastically increased.

Many treatment facilities offer long term, in patient care for methamphetamine abuse because it is so addicting. If there is the possibility of someone being addicted to methamphetamine, then it is imperative that they receive treatment immediately.

Methamphetamine Abuse: How to Treat It

Methamphetamine Abuse: How to Treat It

Speed is a drug that is most often used by people who need to have a burst of energy, want to lose some weight, or stay alert to study for a test or drive hundreds of miles. Mostly used by truck drivers, students, overworked housewives, and even physicians, speed abuse has the tendency to start simple and then end up destroying lives.

Known by the common street names of speed, meth, ecstasy, among many others, methamphetamine is a mood altering drug. It is very addictive because of the way that it makes the user feel when they first take the drug. Immediately following the ingestion of methamphetamine there is a feeling of euphoria. It is commonly referred to as the "rush" of the drug. Many people continue to seek out this feeling through use of the drug. There is also an instant feeling of alertness, energy, and confidence. These are all addictive feelings which the body then craves.

Once someone is addicted to the drug, which can have some serious side effects from prolonged use, it becomes increasingly harder to break them of this potentially deadly habit. Researchers, and physicians, have called a meth addiction one of the hardest of all to be free of. The psychological need of the drug is very strong and is ever present. However, intense treatment is needed immediately once someone has been determined to be addicted to methamphetamine.

The first thing in treating an addict is to recognize the seriousness of the addiction. Once the drug has been removed from the person abusing it, there will be serious withdrawals. The person addicted cannot possibly cope with these symptoms and will choose to seek out the drug with increasing aggressiveness. Long term treatment in an in-patient facility is usually the only way that people abusing methamphetamine can reach a point where they can deal without the drug

Treating the medical withdrawals is the next step. For many this is the hardest step. The good news is that this period lasts for a short time. The vomiting, pain, increased paranoia, and aggressive behavior are all a way that the body naturally adjusts to the sudden decrease of the drug levels.

After this period, the patient then goes through fairly intensive meth treatment program that can be located in Alberta or somewhere else in Canada. For those who are heavy users, for a long period of time, this stage can last up to 3 years. While not all of this is through around the clock in-patient care, at least 12 months is. Depression, episodes of hallucinations, and feelings of suicide are often a part of the first 6 months.

The last part of treatment is a two part process. First, there is life training for new skills and help in re-entering society. While this is going on, there is out patient support care through groups, family, and visits with a treatment facility or counselor. This combination keeps the addicts mind busy so that they are not thinking about the drugs that they could be using. It also gives them a reason to stay away from the atmosphere that led to the use of the drugs in the first place.

Methamphetamine Abuse: Alberta's Strategy for Decreasing the Numbers

Methamphetamine Abuse: Alberta's Strategy for Decreasing the Numbers

The problem of methamphetamine abuse in the province of Alberta has increased exponentially over the last few years. Officials attribute this meteoric rise of methamphetamine use to the fact that it can be easily created through the use of common household items. There is no real expertise that is needed for making this drug and hundreds of "meth labs" are started each month.

Methamphetamine abuse has risen over that of cocaine, and even marijuana, because of the fact that people can make it, or buy it, anywhere. Even in the rural areas of the province, methamphetamine has reared its ugly head. Stopping this increase is something that the RCMP, government, medical, and educational systems have been trying to do for a few years. To do this they have instituted several programs and systems to help curtail this out of control problem.

One of the ways is through awareness and education. There have been many different presentations created for teachers, law enforcement, and first responders to use in helping to educate children on the dangers of methamphetamines. There are many different posters around the province in hospital, schools, stores, and other areas where people congregate to help combat the rising pressure on Alberta's youth.

Another program which has been started is one that involves the entire community. When methamphetamine enters into a community it is not simply in one area. It begins to creep into all areas, and affect many families, often in very severe circumstances. This community mobilization program was created to help educate people in the community of the dangers, the signs of use, and even the signs of those who may be making the drug. They also are encouraged to report any signs to medical personnel and authorities. Many communities have signed up for this and have seen tremendous results.

Treatment facilities have also begun to help with the prevention of methamphetamine use among the population. These places have developed different programs to educate the public, as well as treat those who are already under some form of drug addiction. One of the facts that have come out of all of this is the numbers of those who use methamphetamine who have a prior drug history. By treating patients before they are released on the dangers of this drug, new use among this sector has been held steady.

Constant research into the use of methamphetamine is another strategy used by the province of Alberta. Normally, many agencies only document those who have been treated, or incarcerated, for drug use. This leaves a large gap in the actual numbers of users, where they are, and how to prevent the use. By seeking independent research labs, enlisting community involvement, and having anonymous support groups and phone hotlines, they can compile more data. This data is then used to see trends, develop prevention techniques, and better offer help through treatment and education.

The problem of methamphetamine abuse is not something that Alberta is taking lightly. Through the efforts of law enforcement, the government meth treatment facilities in Alberta, and communities Alberta can begin to decrease the abuse.

Methamphetamine Abuse: How to Keep Teens from Using

Methamphetamine Abuse: How to Keep Teens from Using

In Alberta alone, there is an estimated 100,000 people who have used methamphetamine at some point. Out of this there is a high percentage of those who are now addicted to the drug. While the numbers are not accurate, as many people will not admit to using, and do not get treatment, it can be stated that methamphetamine use, and abuse, has invaded a large part of the population.

Out of this number there are a large number of teenagers, and young adults, that are abusing this readily available drug. In fact, a majority of the users are between the ages of 15 and 24. Many families around the province have felt firsthand the destruction that methamphetamine abuse can cause. Strained relationships, sons and daughters who have been jailed, and even having to cope with the death of a child, are all a part of what living with methamphetamine brings to a family. Keeping children from using methamphetamine should be a high priority of families.

Keeping a child from using methamphetamine is getting much harder today that it was ten years ago. The pervasive nature of the drug, especially in small rural towns, is quickly becoming epidemic. One of the most powerful ways to keep teens from using drugs of any kind is for parents to have a heavy involvement in their lives. Taking the time to talk about meth, about what is going on in their lives, and being available at any time will help give teens a strong foundation. Many times teenagers begin using meth because they do not feel like they are loved at home and want to fit in with their friends.

Peer pressure is a big influencer in the way that teenagers make decisions. When parents are not involved in their teen's lives, they are not influencing them. The friends are. Sometimes these friends to not have good intentions.

If the teenager does fall into the addictive habits of methamphetamine, there are still things that can be done to make sure it does not get any worse. Knowing the symptoms of meth use will help parents to intervene and start treatment immediately. Some of the symptoms include anxiety, increased energy, not being able to sleep, not eating, and stomach aches when it wears off.

Immediate treatment fr meth addiction in Alberta is another way to prevent teenagers from falling deeper into an addiction. Once the symptoms are noticed, immediate action should be taken. The child must be removed from the environment that they are currently in where the drug is easily attained. After, this then therapy, and even in patient care is needed to combat the withdrawals from the drug. At times, the withdrawals can be severe if the abuse has been for 6 months or more.

When a teenager has an addiction to methamphetamine it is important not to dislike the person. Often times, this is the first reaction. While swift action must be taken, it should not be done with hate or malice. This can hurt the addict even more and make recovery much harder, and even unsuccessful.

Methamphetamine: Symptoms of Drug Use

Methamphetamine: Symptoms of Drug Use

Methamphetamines are one of the most commonly abused drugs in Canada. Out of the almost 10% of the population who is addicted to alcohol and drugs, the majority of drug users have experimented with, or are heavy users of, methamphetamines. This drug, known by several other names such as speed, ecstasy, or just meth, is highly addictive and has many different side effects that are tell tale of an addiction.

People who use methamphetamine follow one of three different patterns. These patterns range from low intensity use which is mostly using to stay awake or to lose weight. Another pattern is the binge user who continually administers the drug for long periods of time in order to experience the "rush" of the drug. Lastly, there is the high intensity user. This is the person who continually uses methamphetamine in search of the best high they can experience. This leads to long term addiction that is damaging as the person must use higher doses to experience the "rush".

Unfortunately, one of the fastest rising groups of people that are experimenting, and becoming addicted to, methamphetamines are teenagers and young adults. Knowing the symptoms of the use of methamphetamines is important in order to determine if someone is using meth so treatment can be initiated.

Short term symptoms show up quickly after the person has taken the drug. They may include symptoms such as a euphoric outlook, heightened awareness, jittery condition, excessive talking and excitement, impaired speech, insomnia, and some hallucinations. When someone who is not normally showing these types of characteristics in their demeanor, there may be a problem with methamphetamines. The problem with short term usage is that this ultimately leads to more aggressive binging on the drug, and long term usage.

Some personality changes may also be evident after immediate use, or prolonged use, of methamphetamines. These symptoms may include things like panic, paranoia, nervous feelings, irritability, violent outbursts, and being uninterested in friends, work, or other personal communications.

Many times, the abuse of methamphetamines goes unnoticed by friends and family. The symptoms are explained away through different life circumstances that the person may be going through. However, after prolonged use of the drugs there are other signs that begin to show up and take their toll on the person's body and mind.

These symptoms may include severe medical conditions like liver and kidney failure, brain damage, deep depression, weight loss, lung disorders, as well as immune deficiency. Besides these medical symptoms there are social symptoms that surface with prolonged abuse. These include increased and uncontrollable violent outbursts, aggressive behavior, and loss of interest in hygiene and personal connections, and a trail of broken relationships.

Realizing these symptoms can help people not only understand the severity of the addiction, but also initiate the treatment that is needed. If treatment is not started, the end result can be death. This is the most extreme outcome of the abuse of methamphetamine, but a very real one. Treating the person with methamphetamine addiction is a long term process that requires great commitment on all the parties involved. There are some good meth treatment programs in Alberta where you can become dependant free from the drug.

Marijuana detox centers in Alberta drug detoxification program AB

Marijuana Detox Centers in Alberta

Of all the drugs that are out there, marijuana is one of them that many are addicted to, but you will find that when it comes to the detox process, it’s a lot easier for these people to get through the detox process of this than any other drug that they could be addicted to. Many people don’t know that what are in this drug are about four hundred chemicals. While you think you’re in the clear, there are many who find that even twenty years after detoxing from it, you can get the cravings still.

Now, when one goes through the detox process, many go to a drug rehabilitation in the province of Alberta. What you find is that there are many symptoms when you go to get cleared of your system. You find that you are irritable. Many experience stomach pain as well as some aggression as well as much anxiety.

Many wonder why they should detox and there are many reasons such as your healthy for one. Therefore, one of the other reasons that many go about and decide it’s time to detox from this is due to the fact that marijuana leads to many accidents such as car crashes and many other things. Many have found that they become a totally different person when under the influence of this drug.

There have been some to choose an out patient detox program, but you will find that the best way to do this is with an inpatient detox program in Alberta. The reason for this is because it’s too easy to score a hit. This is something that not many people think about.

Many wonder how long it will take for a person to detox. There are many who find that it all depends on a number of things. For one, just how addicted they were one thing that they have to take into consider. You have to take into account their body and the history they have with the drug. You might find that someone who is detoxing for the fourth or fifth time might have a harder time and a longer detoxification process than someone who is detoxing for the first time. What most find though if they had to give an estimated time frame is that they could be detoxing for a few days to a few weeks. This is hard as you have to make sure that it’s all out of your system and that you allow them to go through the side effects that come with them. For the typical person undergoing treatment for the use of marijuana they can see that it takes at least a week to rid their system of this.

While the process might seem long and it might seem hard, it’s well worth it to get back the life that you or the person you know once lived. There is something well worth the detox program. So, if you know someone, then you should really help them to consider this option as it can be the best choice they make for themselves.{loadposition phone-counselor}

What is Crack Cocaine?

What is Crack Cocaine?

Many might be wondering what crack cocaine is. This is something that we need to change because if you don’t know what it is and it’s offered to you, then you might take it because many times people might say oh it’s okay to use. Therefore, we want to educate you as to this drug and what it can do to you. Let’s start with the basics though to help you get an idea as to what this is.

You will find that this is a drug that has been a hit among many people since the 1980’s. This is when people found this to be a huge issue for many people. It is a powdered drug that is either smoked or snorted. Many will tell you that it’s easy to make and many are making it because of the fact that it’s pretty inexpensive to make.

Many people who use it find that it’s an intense high. This can be something that many people take just to keep awake and give them the energy they need. The reason sis that when you do his, you find that many will stay up for hours and just keep going and then will crash.

The plant in which to create this drug comes from South America. With that being said, many will find that this problem is a problem that not just the United States is going through. There are many other countries that are dealing with this issue that needs to be addressed. Many say it will take the rest of eternity to figure out how to go about and get rid of this issue that is breaking up many families and so much more.

While right now it’s a big problem, you will find that during the days of the Incas, it wasn’t so much a big problem. Those of royalty used this drug and it wasn’t so much an issue as it was before. It was used to curb their hunger and increase the amount of energy and stamina they needed to do what all they were noticed to do back in their time. We all know the Inca society and how notable and worthy they were as well. Just look at history and you can find out what we mean by this.

There are many who want to nip this in the butt, but what we find is that this is a bigger issue that one ever imagined it to be.
Short Term Effects of Crack Cocaine

Short Term Effects of Crack Cocaine

As with any drug, you have side effects for using them. There are some of them who find that these aren’t there for very long. We will refer to them as short term effects. What are some of them with those who use crack cocaine? We did the investigating and this is what we have found. You might be surprised as well. Let’s begin with the education shall we?

There are many short term side effects of crack cocaine that many don’t know about, but now it’s time to educate you on them. What are some of them you might ask? Well, let’s just jump right in. The first of them is dilated pupils. Something else that you will find is that many who use crack cocaine can make you feel as though you don’t want to eat anything at all. There are others who find that you get wound up and irritable. This is all triggered after the first use.

There are others as well. When you are under the influence you find that you have a lot of energy that many don’t know what to do with. They find that sleep is something that they don’t need and can stay up for hours on in. others finds that their ways of thinking are altered greatly which is also quite common.

The faster that you get it into your system, the sooner you will find all these short term feelings. You will also find that the faster you get it into your system, the more intense they will be as well. This is something to keep in mind. What else you need to keep in mind when you absorb it all the faster is that then, these short term effects are often what we call short lived.

Let’s look at how often these stay with you as we look at the different methods of using crack cocaine. The first is when you snort the drug. When you snort crack cocaine, you will find that the short term effects stay with you for only fifteen to thirty minutes. When you smoke crack cocaine, you will find that the short term effects only last five to ten minutes.

The reason you feel all these short term effects is because of the fact that the crack cocaine goes to the brain. When it leaves, your body craves this and therefore, you need to get yourself more. Many like that feelings that they have when they use the crack cocaine. Therefore, they like the short term effects in theory. Once it leaves your system, another short term effect that you will find with crack cocaine is that you go through what is called a coke crash where you just fall because you are tired and drained. You no longer have the energy that you need to keep going. Many times, you might find that during that time of coke crash you also feel irritable and depressed. These are the short term effects of crack cocaine. Alberta crack cocaine treatment are available for you to get your life back!

What are the Risks of Crack Cocaine?

Many want to know what bad can happen when they use crack cocaine. There are many things that can happen that we don’t feel that many stop to think about. Here are just a few that we have seen as they are linked to crack cocaine. When one thinks about risks they only think about the health factors, but there are other risk factors that are associated with them as well. What are some of those? Here are quite a few.

lt;p>One of the first things is health issues. Many don’t stop to think about how crack cocaine can become addicting or the issue at hand that when you do crack cocaine, there are many short term as well as long term risks with ones body that can be found when one goes about to become to depend on this.

There are other risks though. Using crack cocaine is illegal. If you are even caught with it around, you can be in some pretty hot water. It’s considered a felony if you deal it or if you use it. Either way you are screwed. There are many who are parents and end up losing their kids to the system due to the fact that they just don’t know how to say no.

Another risky thing that you find is that your mind is impaired when you are under the influence. You might not use your best judgment when it comes to dealing with things such as driving. Many vehicle accidents have resulted in someone being under the influence. There are some good crack cocaine addiction treatment in Alberta where people can get the proper help they need.

Something else that many don’t think about is what happens if you do become addicted? Think of the relationships that are lost. Some lose their jobs because they can’t function. Kids screw up any chances they have of a future when they become addicted to this. They don’t go to college normally. They find that they are in trouble with the law. They find many other things as well. These are just a few of the other risks that one deals with when this drug is the cause.

The last thing that can be a risk when you use crack cocaine is if you want kids and haven’t had them. It’s true that infertility is a risk you take. There are some who are pregnant and continue to smoke. Kids become addicted when they are in the womb and are born addicted. The child might be taken away due to the neglect that is placed on the child. Therefore, here is a good list of some of the risks people take when they include crack cocaine into their lives. There have been many lives that have been lost and not due to death, but due to the addiction that came from one who constantly needed this drug to survive. It’s time to educate people so that we can maybe get people to rethink their decisions and abstain from using this so as not to ruin the good things that they have going for themselves.
